Three EDLAB Education Innovation Grants awarded to DACS!
Excellent news for our Department of Advanced Computing Sciences because we have three winners for the EDLAB – Maastricht University Centre for Teaching & Learning Education Innovation grants!

The EDLAB Education Innovation Grants are awarded every year to innovative projects in teaching and learning at Maastricht University. This year, DACS members were able to attract 3 out of 9 awarded grants and we're involved in a fourth! These projects allow us to implement small-scale innovative projects across our programs. The winners are:
-
Bart Mennink, a full professor in cryptology at DACS, received a grant together with many other DACS colleagues for his project on Crypture the flag which will develop an escape-room-style environment to improve students' understanding of security concepts. The project targets courses in Cryptography, Computer Security, and Information Security (roughly 300 students yearly), but it is also well-suited for other study programs and outreach activities.

Linda Rieswijk, a lecturer at DACS, will work on AI Tutor Trainer. This project develops an AI-powered chatbot and scenario database to help tutors and students practice managing communication and group dynamics in research supervision. It supports experiential, reflective learning in DACS tutor training for both bachelor and master projects, and in UTQ modules on supervision, feedback, and group dynamics.
