Problem-Based Learning Workshop at Free University of Bozen-Bolzano

Together with Alexandra Mihai (School of Business and Economics, Maastricht University), one of our team members, Martijn Boussé (Faculty of Science and Engineering, Maastricht University) hosted a full-day workshop for teaching staff at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano on Problem-Based Learning (PBL), the key teaching and learning paradigm of Maastricht University.

The workshop had 26 motivated teachers from different faculties, including engineering, agriculture, education, and business, and lively discussions about concrete implementation opportunities and challenges and differences between the universities.

The day was packed with three workshops and an open discussion session. The first workshop was a deep dive into the underlying learning principles of PBL, the second a tutorial simulation based on our Calculus Legacy Project (funded by a Comenius Teaching Fellow), and the third workshop was a play session of our Constructive Alignment Game (funded by an EDLAB Education Innovation Grant together with researchers from the Faculty of Health, Medicine, and Life Sciences, Maastricht University). The day was closed with an open discussion aimed at answering any remaining questions.

A key element in the success of this full-day workshop was the collaboration between Alexandra and Martijn, coming from different perspectives, science and engineering one the one hand and business and economics on the other, that were relevant to the participants.

Please reach out if you're interested in hosting a PBL workshop!
