Four EDLAB Education Innovation Grants awarded to DACS members!

Excellent news for our Department of Advanced Computing Sciences because we have four winners for the EDLAB – Maastricht University Centre for Teaching & Learning Education Innovation grants! Even better: DACS staff is involved in five of the eleven awarded grants!!

Four EDLAB Education Innovation Grants awarded to DACS members!

The EDLAB Education Innovation grants are awarded every year to innovative, inspiring, and exciting projects at Maastricht University. This year, DACS members were able to attract 4 out of 11 awarded grants and we're involved in a fifth one! These projects will allow us to implement small-scale innovative projects across our program. The winners are:

  • Rico Möckel, an associate professor in robotics at DACS, received a grant for his project on Educational Modular (EDMO) Robots, an educational tool for collaborative, contextual, constructive, and self-directed (CCCS) learning, aligning with UM's vision on education.
  • Bastian Küppers, an assistant professor of computer science, will work on Code Golf, where he will try to improve programming education through gamification.
  • Monica Salvioli, an assistant professor in game theory, will develop together with Linear Algebra teachers at Maastricht University, TU Delft, and University of Twente a Linear Algebra Card Game to improve conceptual understanding in engineering programs.
  • Sree Kotala, PhD Researcher at DACS, will develop an AI-based virtual coach for first-year students in mathematics courses, enabling a more personalized, yet scalable, learning experience for our studetns.
  • Finally, Kirsten Kleijkers-Peetoom and Karen Könings from FHML received a grant together with Martijn Boussé from DACS to develop a Constructive Alignment Board Game to learn about Constructive Alignment and Co-Creation.

Looking forward to an exciting year full of great projects!
